TREASURY

about treasury

Every Tufts undergraduate student pays a Student Activities Fee, used to facilitate events and programming on campus; for the 2023-2024 academic year, the fee is $396, which raises a total of over $2.6 million. By the decision of the Tufts University Board of Trustees, the TCU Senate has the responsibility to oversee and distribute student activities money to student organizations. Once a student organization has official recognition status by the TCU Judiciary, they are eligible to receive a budget. The TCU Treasurer serves as the chief executive in managing this money on behalf of the Senate.

Senate internally elects ten of its own members to oversee financial matters, forming the Allocations Board, which is chaired by the Treasurer. The Allocations board also elects an Associate Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer to aid the Treasurer in completing their duties. Daily financial operations for all student organizations are handled by the TCU Treasury (the TCU Treasurer, Associate Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer). Weekly supplementary funding requests and the annual budgeting process are conducted by the whole Allocations Board.

SAFBreakdown

As shown above, the majority of funds are used to form annual budgets for over 300 student organizations that are entirely run by Tufts students. The remainder is used to form a Supplementary Fund, which student organizations can access to cover unforeseen expenses, speaker requests, off-campus trips, and more.
