I am running for TCU President because I believe Tufts should work better for students in the ways that matter most day to day. That means more reliable dining hours, real transparency around fees, and expanding access to essentials like free printing during midterms, better dorm amenities, and more accessible campus resources. We should be asking bigger questions like why students are paying so many extra fees and what it would take to reduce them.
As Treasurer, I have worked to make funding more consistent and accessible, and I want to build on that by increasing club funding, connecting organizations to sponsorships and fundraising opportunities, and ensuring students get the most out of their resources. I also want to invest in spaces whether that’s improving the campus center, creating more meeting rooms for clubs, or exploring options like an outdoor gym.
This campaign is also about strengthening campus culture. That means clearer communication, more opportunities for student input, and better connections across communities, including SMFA. I want students to feel heard, supported, and excited to be here.
A vote isn’t just a choice it is an investment in the kind of Tufts we want to build together.

I'm Defne (dehf-neh) and I want to bring a little more joy, care, and accountability to student governance at Tufts. For the past 2 years, I've worked in Senate to push for real support for students. Last year, I increased transfer student housing availability by 400%. As your current Historian, I led the Student Leadership Stipend program to allocate $15,000 to our club leaders.
I'm running for TCU President because I want to expand that work.
That means matching the amount allotted for Student Leadership Stipends with the money TCU Government pays its own leaders. That means fundraising $150,000 so newer clubs and students without wealthy networks can operate without the pressure of fundraising to fill budget gaps. It also means being honest about what students need —more space to exist and create, better maintenance and follow-through, stronger access to essentials like food and winter or professional clothing, and a campus
culture that doesn't treat joy like an afterthought.
The reality is, most students can't point to ways TCU affects their lives on campus. So, I've identified 6 areas for change:
Money
Food
Resources
Space
Facilities
Vibes
These affect the lives of every student on our campus. I've also identified projects that would make each of those areas a little bit better: one step at a time. My hope is that when put together, those small seeds of change will make our campus bloom.
We deserve a Senate that takes care of its people.
Let's make Tufts bloom!

I’m proactive, genuine, realistic, and hard working. I’ll genuinely have the time that this important role demands, since I’m going part-time in my senior year. I do not take this role lightly, and I swear that I will give no less than my absolute best effort.
My current, *realistic* promises:
Senate wide encouragement to pursue FULLY INCLUSIVE, LARGE-SCALE EVENTS (yes, with food): midterm food fair will be happening
PUBLIC TCU PROJECT UPVOTING SYSTEM for voters (think Sidechat) where projects with the most hype are genuinely* prioritized within senate
Continue conversation with admin about academic credit for leadership, athletics, and extracurricular dedication
Proven results:
Sundae bar in dining halls
Biweekly deep cleans of the gym
Spring sem club fair (aka new student org fair)
Ab crunch machine (currently being shipped)
