Disability Community Senator (1 Seat)

kirthi vengat

Hello! My name is Kirthi Vengat, and I’m running to be your Disability Community Senator! My goal for this year is to advocate for making our campus more safe, welcoming, and supportive, for all of our students. I plan to voice many of our concerns to fix hazardous sidewalks, especially on lower campus, and expand campus shuttle stops to create more accessible transportation options. These improvements aim to make it easier for students with mobility challenges to get around campus safely and comfortably. I will use my position to be a strong voice for students with disabilities by listening to your ideas and opinions, pushing for accommodations, and making sure accessibility is always being prioritized. I also want to improve daily life for the entire community, through providing prescription lab goggles and lab coats in laboratories and improving bathroom ventilation in residence halls. Finally, I plan to make retail dining more student-friendly by clearly tagging food prices, keeping Hodge open on weekends, and starting Late Night Commons earlier in the year. I’m committed to listening, working with, and supporting all of our students to create a more accessible and inclusive Tufts experience.

Hi, I’m Nathaniel! I’m running to represent Tufts’ disability community on the TCU Senate because I’ve had disabilities my entire life, and I know the difficulties students with disabilities can face on our campus, so I want to expand the resources available to accommodate them. If I’m elected, I’ll do that by increasing the StAAR Center’s capacity to grant disabled students exam accommodations, creating a university handbook of disabled students’ rights, and forming a disability affinity space. On top of that, as a former TCU Senator, I’ve advocated for students with disabilities extensively and collaborated with the StAAR Center several times to improve Tufts’ registration system for exam accommodations. Because of that, I know how important the TCU Senate is to advocating for the student body, and I’m passionate about making sure that students with disabilities have an equitable experience here at Tufts, so I want to continue my advocacy for the disability community on the TCU Senate this year.
